Amtrak’s Gateway Tunnel Rises in ARCs Ashes

From  Baristanet: "Today, New Jersey's Democratic Senators Frank R. Lautenberg and Robert Menendez joined Amtrak officials in announcing a proposal to build the "Gateway Project," which would follow a similar footprint as the abandoned Access to the Region's Core (ARC) tunnel, which Governor Christie aborted last year. We had reported the possibility of Amtrak stepping in to salvage some form of the concept."

The NEC and commuters need that tunnel and I applaud Amtrak looking to take this on, but starting up this effort again could take years....

  • I've been hearing a lot that the President wants to spend some money on Rails and mass transit. I think this country needs less cars and more ways to move around. (I should say, more affordable ways to move around) But what really caught my attention was that John Mica (Rep from Florida) believes we should focus on the Northeast Corridor. I am glad to see that because the NEC is probably the most used system in the country. And it desperately needs to be upgraded. It makes NO sense to have these slow trains moving about the NEC.
