COMMUTE: Tue Jan 24, 2006; #642 (late) and #175 (on time)

My commute for Tuesday January 24, 2006.

Morning leg - took Amtrak Train #642 (PHL-NYC):
  • PHL 9:09, +25
  • TRE 9:38, +28
  • NWK 10:14, +32
  • NYC 10:29, +29
Had an empty seat next to me, train less than half full.

Evening leg - took Amtrak Train #175 (NYC-PHL):
  • NYC 8:36, +1
  • NWK 8:49, -3
  • TRE 9:30, 0
  • PHL 9:57, -13
Had empty seat next to me, train was about half full.

    There's just one thing: How do you actually buy the Smart Pass (monthly pass)? Is there a way to do it online? I can't seem to find any info about it on Amtrak's website.

    You have to buy monthly passes or the 10 trip ticket at an Amtrak Quick Track kiosk or at the Amtrak teller window at 30th Street. I usually just buy it at the kiosk, the window lines take forever. Don't forget to become an Amtrak Guest Rewards member, points do add up quickly. You can enter your AGR number at the kiosk at the time of purchase.

    The amtrak.com site is pretty bad with info about the monthly pass, the site really says nothing. Calling the 800 number for Amtrak is also bad as those operators do not know much about the monthly pass or the 10 trip ticket.
